FAIRBANKS—Wildland firefighters were scrambling Monday to assess the effects of the weekend's thunderstorms, including getting a handle on dozens of new blazes.

More than 60 fires sprung up over the weekend, many as the result of the more than 20,000 lightning strikes, according to the Alaska Division of Forestry.
