The yellowing or browning of the Pikes Peak region's trees brought on by autumn should not be confused with discoloration caused by harmful bark beetle infestation or tree disease, Colorado State Forest Service officials reminded residents Thursday.

The natural shedding process usually begins in September or October, Michael Till, a forester with the agency's Woodland Park District, said in a news release.
