HELENA – The Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest has signed off on a nearly 5,000-acre project near Lincoln aimed at producing timber for local mills while diversifying wildlife habitat and mitigating wildfire risks.
The Stonewall Vegetation Project area, located about four miles north and west of Lincoln in heavily beetled-killed forests, covers 24,000 acres within Lewis and Clark and Powell counties. The project includes logging on more than 2,100 acres and prescribed burning of more than 2,700 acres.
