DEER LODGE — Hazardous fuel reduction, logs for jobs, stream restoration and improved habitat for fish, wildlife and cattle on the Montana State Prison ranch near Deer Lodge are the result of a Forests in Focus Initiative project.

The after-effects of the catastrophic mountain pine beetle outbreak has resulted in a forest health crisis throughout Montana and the West, and the availability of timber continues to be challenge for Sun Mountain Lumber in Deer Lodge and other mills, leaders in the industry said.
