Help identifying ash trees and information on a threat to those species is now literally in the palm of homeowner's hands.

The Colorado State Forest Service and Colorado State University Extension Service launched a brand new smart phone app on Tuesday that will walk people, step by step, through determining whether the trees in their yard are ash species and, therefore, susceptible to the emerald ash borer.

"We realized most everybody carries a smart phone and we should have something they can carry into their yards," said Keith Wood, community forestry program manager for the Colorado State Forest Service.
